Dr Frederik Vorster is a senior lecturer in the Department of Physics and experimental physicist in the Photovoltaics Research Group at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth. He obtained his PhD degree from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University for his work on Concentrator Photovoltaics. His academic responsibilities include lecturing and acting as supervisor and promoter to Master and Doctoral students in the field of photovoltaics. Dr Vorster’s research interests are in the field of solid state physics, photonic materials and concentrator and flat plate photovoltaics. His main research work focusses on the development of novel characterization tools for a variety of photovoltaic devices on module and cell material level. Dr Vorster is also a founding member of PVinsight PTY Ltd, an ISO17025 accredited Photovoltaics testing company. Dr Vorster’s currently role is as senior technical advisor for the company.

Dr Vorster has served on the organizing committees of several physics, photonics and photovoltaics related conferences.  He is a member of the South African Institute of Physics and past chairman of the Applied Physics Forum, a subgroup of the Institute.
